A source revealed to Ofoq News on Thursday that although some Ukrainian military units reported an improvement in their speeds after restoring access to the Starshield service, this improvement is not in all locations, and the available speeds are not unlimited. The source said that the current speeds are “certainly insufficient to intercept drones powered by jet engines,” and added that the Ukrainian side is waiting for information and clarifications from the American side regarding this situation, but has not received any response yet.
It is noteworthy that “Starshield” is a military-use version of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s “Starlink” service. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Musk had restored access to the service to Ukraine, without clarifying whether he personally requested this.
Trump told reporters at the White House: “Whether I called or someone else called, it makes no difference. What matters in the end is that he restored service.”
Restoring Ukraine's access to Starlink came after days of questions about who initially ordered the service to be cut off. This is something that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said hindered his country's war effort against Russia. Trump and some of his senior officials denied making any contact to restrict Ukraine's use of the service, without providing a clear explanation of what actually happened.
Musk also denied taking any action on his part unilaterally. Earlier this week, Trump announced that he was not involved in the matter.
