Liz Wilcox succeeded in turning a simple idea for selling email templates into a company that generated revenues of about $500,000, after she started a side project in search of more time with her daughter away from the pressures of traditional work.

For a monthly subscription of $9, Wilcox offered subscribers a new template every week, allowing them to customize messages and use them for product launches, promotions, or communicating with customers.

The entrepreneur relied on a huge archive of marketing messages that she had prepared during her years of work, which provided her with ready-made content that could be easily transformed into salable templates.

She believed that the product addresses a real gap in the market, after noticing that many companies do not send mailing campaigns regularly due to their lack of ready-made, easy-to-use templates.

It took advantage of its existing customer base to promote the service via a direct marketing message with a simple title: “Can I get $9?” It aimed to attract 100 customers within 30 days, a goal that it was able to achieve in only 28 days.

To ensure the continuity of the project, she woke up every day at 4 a.m. and completed her basic work before devoting herself to developing the new service, convinced that the subscription model had great growth potential.

As the business expanded, it launched an affiliate marketing program that gives service promoters a share of monthly subscriptions in exchange for attracting new customers.

The decision quickly proved successful, as the number of members increased to 700 within just three months, while many customers and partners turned into the company's indirect sales team.

Wilcox strengthened her marketing efforts by appearing on as many podcasts as possible, taking advantage of the audiences of those platforms to expand the subscriber base and increase the spread of her brand.

It also relied on limited-time offers to boost revenues, including prepaid annual subscriptions with a limited number of seats, a method it repeated more than once during 2022 and 2023.

One of the flash sales campaigns in July 2023 achieved remarkable results, as it recorded sales exceeding $48,000 within 48 hours, at a rate of approximately $1,000 per hour.

By December 2021, Wilcox was able to leave her job permanently after successfully building a company based on recurring subscription revenue that came to replace her previous income from writing marketing content.
