An American representative thanks Syria for the military support for Saudi Arabia and Yemen against the Houthis, and a Syrian source comments

US Representative Joe Wilson thanked Syria and its “courageous leadership” in providing military support to Saudi Arabia and Yemen against the Iran-backed Houthi group. This came in a blog post by Wilson, on Saturday evening, in which he said: “We are very grateful to Syria for its courageous leadership in providing military support to the people of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in their battle against the extremist Houthi terrorists.”

Syria has been liberated from Iranian hegemony, and will soon contribute to liberating Yemen from Iran as well. All peoples of the region must work against Iran and its tools!”

For its part, the official Syrian News Agency (SANA) quoted a Syrian diplomatic source on Saturday as saying that Damascus sending military forces to Yemen at the present time is “unfounded,” adding that the current military agreements with Saudi Arabia focus on training military forces and building their capabilities. The source said: “The current military agreements with our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fall within the framework of cooperation in the fields of training, exchange of expertise and military consultations, in a way that serves the national interests of both countries.”

He continued, according to what SANA reported: “The agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focuses on training military forces and building their capabilities, as coordination visits from Saudi Arabia to Syria will begin next month.”
