Dublin - Ofoq News - The “Stop the Game” campaign called on the players of the Irish national football team and their Icelandic coach, Heimir Hallgrimsson, to boycott the return match against Israel, scheduled for next Sunday, in the third round of the European Nations League competitions, in solidarity with Palestine.
The Irish Sun newspaper reported that the campaign sent a letter to the coach and players, signed by a number of Irish League fans, calling for them not to participate in the match scheduled to be held in Serbia.
The campaign appealed to the players to stand alongside their colleagues and the Irish people, considering that participating in the match conflicts with the positions of the majority of citizens, based on opinion polls that it said showed more than 70% of Irish people opposed to holding the two matches.
The letter touched on Ireland's position on the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, noting that the Irish government supports the international legal process, and that Dublin is participating with South Africa in the case filed before the International Court of Justice regarding accusations of genocide.
