Two Iranian police officers were killed and another was injured on Monday in an armed attack targeting a police patrol in the city of Bamoor in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. Local information revealed that two military vehicles in the area were also targeted, resulting in casualties among their occupants.
A patrol unit belonging to the Bamoor Police Command was attacked today on the Bamoor-Iran Shahr axis, according to the police news agency in Sistan and Baluchestan. Armed men opened fire on the patrol officers while they were conducting a security patrol in the area, leading to the death of two police officers and the injury of another officer.
The police stated that their forces began a process to identify and arrest the perpetrators following the attack, noting that the assailants are still being pursued.
The official announcement came after reports of two military vehicles being targeted in Bamoor, according to the "Hal Wash" platform, which specializes in monitoring the affairs of the Baluch in Iran, as armed men opened fire on one of the vehicles, resulting in the deaths of at least three of its occupants.
Later, local sources reported the death of all passengers in the vehicle, without being able to independently verify the exact number of passengers or the final death toll, as one of the vehicles was shot at and overturned during the attack.
It is worth noting that the police statement has not yet included additional details regarding the second vehicle or the status of its passengers, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, nor have Iranian authorities officially accused a specific organization.
It is noted that the city of Pambur is located in Sistan and Baluchestan province, an area that has witnessed a continuous series of confrontations and armed attacks between armed Baloch groups and Iranian forces over the past decades, particularly in the regions surrounding Saravan, Iranshahr, Chabahar, and Zahedan.
A significant part of the history of current armed organizations goes back to the group "Jundallah," which was founded by Abdul Malik Rigi in 2002 and engaged in repeated confrontations with Iranian forces. After Rigi's arrest in 2010 and his execution, other armed organizations and factions emerged from the same environment, the most prominent of which is "Jaish al-Adl," along with other groups.
The province has witnessed major attacks in recent years attributed to "Jaish al-Adl," including the attack on a police station in Rask in December 2023, which, according to the Iranian narrative, resulted in the death of 11 police officers and injuries to others, while the organization claimed responsibility for the attack.
