Egypt.. The Suez Canal receives the first Evergreen ships after a break of about 3 years

The Suez Canal Authority announced, on Sunday, the return of the shipping line “EVER GREEN” to transit again through the canal, after a period of interruption that lasted about 3 years since the outbreak of the Red Sea crisis. The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, said in a statement that the navigation movement in the canal witnessed, on Sunday, the first crossing of the giant container ship “EVER EON”, as part of the northern convoy, during its voyage coming from the Netherlands and heading to Singapore.

The ship belongs to the Evergreen shipping line, is 369 meters long, 53.6 meters wide, and has a total tonnage of 185,000 tons, while its capacity is 16,556 equivalent containers (TEU), according to the statement. The ship is currently operating in the shipping service (NEU 7), operated by the Ocean Alliance, and directly connects the main ports on the trade route between the Far East and northwestern Europe.

In accordance with the protocol followed by the Suez Canal Authority to receive ships crossing the canal for the first time, Rabie delegated a number of senior marine guides to board the ship, welcome its crew, and hand its captain a souvenir. The Chairman of the Authority confirmed that the return of the Evergreen shipping line to cross the Suez Canal again represents a positive indicator of the return of global trade movement to its sustainable path between East and West.

He pointed out that this shipping line intends to restart more of its flights through the canal during the coming period, after a period of interruption that lasted about 3 years since the outbreak of the Red Sea crisis. Rabie explained that the Suez Canal “succeeded in restoring many of the navigational services of the major shipping lines operating on the trade route between Europe and Asia, namely (CMA CGM, Maersk, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, COSCO, EVER GREEN), in a step that reflects the strategic importance of the canal as a major axis linking East and West.”
