Tehran - Ofoq News - The Iranian Fars Agency reported on Sunday that a fire broke out on board a ship in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, after it was hit by an unknown projectile, in a new incident targeting maritime traffic in the region.
In this context, the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO) announced that it had received a report that an oil tanker sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile on the left side, which led to a fire breaking out on board.
The Authority confirmed that the crew members are fine, noting that the extent of the damage to the ship and the potential environmental impacts are not yet clear, while the competent authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
The authority called on ships transiting the region to be cautious and report any suspicious activities, in light of the increasing security risks facing commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
