Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Designs that combine balance, movement, and femininity, while maintaining the simplicity of lines and purity of form, reflect the style of fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta, who since the founding of their brand Azzi & Osta have combined geometric precision with emotion. In an interview with the Ofoq News website in Arabic, the two designers talk about design philosophy, sources of inspiration and the influence of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on their work, and how they succeeded in preserving their identity between tradition and modernity.
What cultural or personal influences shape your design philosophy? Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We are shaped by contrast.
Beirut is not a quiet city, but multi-layered, poetic, chaotic, and sophisticated at the same time. This tension naturally finds its way into our actions.
Personally, we are influenced by art, architecture, cinema, and human behavior more than fashion itself. Emotion, memory and observation play a big role, as we design for women who live their lives to the fullest, not just models.
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We share the same values and vision, but our character is different, and this is the strength of the duo. One of us is more intuitive and emotional, the other is more analytical and geometric.
One of us pushes, the other corrects and adjusts, and we always achieve the same end result. How do you collaborate as a duo, and what is the dynamic when making creative decisions?
Fashion designers George Qazzi and Asaad Osta: We are in constant dialogue. Sometimes quiet, sometimes strong, but always honest.
We challenge each other relentlessly, but there is a deep trust. Creative disagreement is part of the process, refining the final result.
If we agree quickly, we know something is missing. Creativity is the most challenging and fun part, and we are always surprised by how much we are able to push our boundaries, keeping the couture, gowns, and ready-to-wear uniqueness of each collection with a clear unified voice.
How do you balance tradition and modernity in designs? Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We considered tradition a foundation, not a restriction.
We respect craftsmanship, haute couture techniques, and know-how, but we reinterpret them from a contemporary perspective. For us, modernity is not just trends, but a connection with reality.
Balance naturally occurs when we respect the past and design for a woman who fully lives in the present. When creating a new collection, what is the first item you select?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We always start with the story. The story sets the mood, rhythm, and emotion, so color, texture, and form blend into the narrative.
Without the story, the collection becomes just a series of dresses. Tell us about your latest Haute Couture collection titled Time in Bloom?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: The collection is a meditation on patience and transformation. It addresses the growth that remains hidden before it becomes clear and undeniable.
The collection explores both fragility and strength, through design lines that unfold gradually rather than all at once. How do you see fashion as a narrative medium, and what messages do you hope to convey?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: Fashion is a language without translation. Through our designs, we hope to convey strength without aggression, femininity without cliché, and luxury without excess.
Most importantly, we want women to feel seen, not hidden. What is the role of sustainability in today's luxury fashion industry?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: Sustainability is no longer a choice, but a responsibility. True luxury is about respect for craftsmanship and conscious production.
Working in haute couture also means a slower, more conscious process, but we continue to question materials, waste, and volume. Ethics should always be an essential part of the design process.
How do you combine global fashion trends, identity and heritage? Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We watch trends, but we don't chase them.
If a global trend aligns naturally with our language, we might quietly embrace it. If not, we let it pass, for permanence comes from stability, not from momentary interaction.
Which collection or item holds personal meaning, and why? Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: Every collection represents a moment, but those created in uncertain times have a special weight.
The pieces born from hardship often carry the most honesty, and that's something one feels after the season is over. Each collection and piece is a true translation of the time in which it was created, the mood we were in, and the kind of difficulties we faced, all of which is reflected in the minute details of each design.
How do you balance celebrities' personal style with current fashion trends? Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: Personality always comes first, while fashion trends and fashions are nothing more than tools, not rules.
Our role is to translate the character into an authentic, timeless moment without it seeming forced. What's the most challenging look you've ever created for a celebrity?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: The most challenging looks are often the most rewarding. When time is short, expectations are high, and precision is non-negotiable, the true value of Haute Couture emerges.
We mention here designing the looks of international stars such as Beyoncé and Cardi B, as they were among the most difficult and distinctive due to tight schedules. We also always remember Queen Rania’s look, which is an important milestone in our career. You had a remarkable participation in the “We Design Beirut” exhibition. Do you have projects that go beyond fashion?
Fashion designers George Azzi and Asaad Osta: We continue to explore projects that go beyond fashion to include design, spaces, and cultural expression.
