From his nationality to what he tried to do.. What do we know about the pilot accused of attacking his colleague on the Fly Dubai flight to Tel Aviv?

The identity of the pilot - who allegedly attacked the captain of the plane before trying to take control of Flydubai flight FZ107 bound to Israel - is still unclear, and the motive behind his action or the weapon he used are still unknown. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the alleged attacker holds Omani citizenship.

An Israeli official told Ofoq News that the pilot had been working for Flydubai for only 8 months before the alleged attack was carried out. Netanyahu explained to the network that the attacker was trying to “jam the devices” of the plane when a passenger - described as a hero and later found to be a plumber named Yaniv Hayon - stormed the cockpit.

The Israeli Prime Minister said that Israel had not received any specific warning from the intelligence services before the attack, adding: “We had received a lot of information indicating that Iranian proxies - especially Hezbollah and Hamas - were planning to launch attacks against Israel and Israeli civilians abroad, but I cannot say that we received a specific warning about this particular incident.” Netanyahu also stated that the suspect used an axe, although this information has not yet been confirmed.

International investigation: Netanyahu added that the suspected attacker would soon be transferred to the UAE for questioning, with Israel participating in the investigation. There are no official diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Israel, and it is not yet clear how the Omani pilot obtained permission to fly to Israel. Netanyahu said on Wednesday that the suspected attacker had been arrested and was being questioned by Saudi authorities.

However, questions still remain about the circumstances of the accident and what prompted the pilot to start that bloody quarrel. It is noteworthy that the passengers arrived safely in Israel on an alternative flight operated by Fly Dubai, after Saudi Arabia rejected an Israeli request to send a military or civilian plane to return the passengers to the homeland.

One of the passengers, Asaf Rajwan, said that the person who attacked Machhar was “controlled” very quickly by a group of passengers and crew. Rajwan stated that he helped - along with about five other people - in subduing the attacker, adding in a statement to the Ofoq News network: “It was not a long quarrel; we controlled it very quickly, and there was no real fight,” adding: “There were no punches exchanged or anything like that.”
