Khaled and Marwan...a Jordanian-Lebanese duo creating a new language for fashion

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - The cultural diversity between Jordanian fashion designers Khaled Saifi and Lebanese Marwan Madi formed a rich space for creative dialogue, as each environment carries a different sensitivity towards beauty, details and women. Based on their belief that fashion is a universal language, they transformed this difference into visual harmony and a single identity that respects the roots and addresses women wherever they are, through a brand bearing their names Khaled & Marwan.

The two designers point out in an interview with the Arabic website, Ofoq News, that the idea that brings them together as a duo in the world of fashion is always to present a strong, conscious, and non-stereotypical woman. The difference often appears in the approach to details or the intensity of visual expression, and this difference constitutes an element of development, not conflict, because it opens the way for healthy creative discussion.

Fashion is often based on precision and discipline, while creativity requires a space of freedom and chaos. How do you balance these two dimensions within the design process?

Khaled and Marwan: We always start with freedom of ideas and creative chaos, and then reformulate them within a framework of precision and high craftsmanship. We believe that discipline does not restrict creativity, but rather gives it a sustainable form.

How do you deal with the balance between artistic ambition and market requirements, especially in a region undergoing rapid cultural and economic transformations? Khaled and Marwan: We try to make artistic ambition the basis, and the market is an element that understands, not an element that leads.

We read the transformations well, but we do not give up our identity, and we believe that women in our region today are more aware and appreciate honesty in design. “Checkmate” is the title of your new collection, and it indicates resolution and transformation. Does this collection represent a turning point or a bold decision in your career?

Khaled and Marwan: The “Checkmate” collection expresses a moment of confrontation and clarity, not an end. It is a stage in which we declare a sharper and more confident identity.

The name symbolizes decisiveness and the re-arrangement of powers, a situation we see clearly in the women’s march today and in the reality of the region. Tell us more about the details of this collection, and who is the woman these designs are aimed at?

Khaled and Marwan: The collection is characterized by sharp lines, clear shoulders, a balance between solidity and softness, and colors that symbolize strength. As for the woman we are turning to, she is a woman who knows herself. She does not follow trends, but rather chooses what is similar to her.

Do you feel that fashion today has become a means of expressing attitude and identity, more than just a celebration of form and beauty? Khaled and Marwan: Yes, fashion today has become a language of expression of identity and position.

Beauty alone is no longer enough, it must be linked to meaning, message and honesty. How do you describe women who choose Khaled and Marwan designs?

Is she a woman in a state of confrontation, strength, or constant transformation? Khaled and Marwan: She is a woman in a constant state of transformation. Sometimes strong, sometimes confrontational, sometimes rediscovering herself.

You have repeatedly collaborated with the Lebanese beauty expert and social media influencer, Joelle Mardinian. What did you learn from this experience, and how do you describe its relationship with fashion and its general image?

Khaled and Marwan: Collaborating with Joel Mardinian is a rich human and professional experience. She is a woman who knows her identity well and treats fashion as an honest tool of expression, not as a mask.

Her relationship with fashion stems from her true personality. Egyptian actress Arwa Gouda's dress finally caught attention.

How was this design born, and what did you want to express through it? Khaled and Marwan: This dress is part of the Serene collection, which celebrates inner calm and soft power.

The choice of color was essential, as we wanted it to be a distinctive and unconventional color that reflects a calm but striking presence. As for the accessory detail, the gold-plated rose, it came as a symbolic element that confirms that femininity can be soft and firm at the same time.

Which international stars would you like to collaborate with in the future, and why? Khaled and Marwan: We tend to collaborate with women who have a clear identity and intelligent presence, regardless of fame.

Do you think that “universality” should be a primary goal for fashion designers, or does success have deeper criteria that go beyond popularity and popularity? Khaled and Marwan: Universality for us is a result and not a goal in itself.

True success is represented by building an honest and sustainable identity and the ability to develop and continue over time.
