The UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO) announced on Friday that an oil tanker was struck by an “unidentified projectile” in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a power outage on board. The UKMTO stated that there were no reports of injuries on board the tanker.
A small fire also broke out in the tanker, which has since been extinguished. On Friday, the spokesman for the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Hassan Qashqavi, explained the details of a new Iranian draft law for the management of the Strait of Hormuz, and said that it “provides for preventing Israeli and hostile ships belonging to countries participating in the war against Iran from crossing the Strait.”
Qashqavi added that the draft law on “strategic action to secure security and sustainable progress in the Strait of Hormuz” is very different from the laws we had before, especially since Article 16 of it stipulates the repeal of violating laws, according to what was reported by the semi-official Iranian “Tasnim” news agency. Last Monday, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced that a statement by a prominent Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander earlier, that Tehran fully controls the Strait of Hormuz, is an “incorrect claim.”
Centcom added in a statement on the “X” platform, previously Twitter: “Iran does not have a naval power, because the American forces sank it. Iran also does not control the Strait of Hormuz, and the evidence of this is the passage of thousands of ships freely through the strait, in addition to the transfer of more than a billion barrels of oil during the past few months alone.”
The semi-official Iranian Mehr News Agency quoted the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Army, Habibullah Sayyari, as saying that “the area west of the Strait of Hormuz, the Strait itself, and the Gulf are under the complete control of the naval force of the Revolutionary Guard.”
