- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed, on Wednesday, Tehran’s commitment to obtaining nuclear energy, while sending messages to US President Donald Trump regarding the war with his country, stressing that it “will not kneel.” In his speech to the UN General Assembly, Pezeshkian said his country needed to build its military capabilities because "a people unable to defend themselves will be eaten in today's world," he said.
Pezeshkian stressed that Iran does not seek hegemony “nor achieve our security at the expense of others,” explaining that “Iran’s defenses were built so that no one would think that targeting Iranian cities would not be responded to.” He addressed world leaders: “The American president described us as terrorists, while we were victims of terrorism.”
He pointed out that he came from "Iran, where our esteemed Supreme Leader was assassinated without any legal justification or reason. (From Iran), where a school was actually bombed. Look at these children. They died under the weight of the bombs and weapons used by the United States and Israel." He continued: "They were innocent and did not commit any crimes."
Pezeshkian said, "Nuclear energy is part of our progress... Iran does not accept that nuclear technology becomes a monopoly for a small number of countries. We will not kneel and we will not give up one of our inherent rights. We will not obtain nuclear weapons, and we do not want restrictions on our nuclear energy."
Pezeshkian pointed out that his country “does not look at its neighbors as security competitors; we want to have strong neighbors. We do not seek to destabilize security in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.”
We cannot allow some to enjoy freedom of passage and achieve their interests through this waterway, while at the same time they use it to launch aggression against us, destabilize our security, and prevent us from accessing our waterways. He continued: “They prevent us from accessing our waterway, and continue to supply other parties with missiles and lethal military technologies, which spreads insecurity in all the lands surrounding that waterway.”
While Pezeshkian said that "peace in Iran will not come from the battlefield," he reiterated that "Iran will not submit. They are the ones who imposed the war on us. We have repeatedly proven that we are not afraid to fight. We defend Iran and our land." He concluded his speech by saying: "We will never yield and we will never kneel. Mr. Trump must understand Iran. (We are) ready for diplomacy and negotiations without resorting to the language of force."
