The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, announced on Tuesday that Tehran had delivered a “capable and rational” response to America, noting that “the ball is now in the American court to prevent war,” as he described it. Ghalibaf said in his opening speech during the council session: “Our military and strategic response to any miscalculation on the part of the enemy will be so unpredictable, that we will completely turn the page on their miscalculation, without adhering to any geographical restrictions, and with it all of their material and intangible assets,” according to the semi-official Iranian Tasnim news agency.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament added: “The countries of the region should know that just as the Islamic Republic of Iran has its hand on the trigger and is ready for battle, it has delivered a capable and rational response to the American side, and the ball is now in the American court to prevent war from occurring.” For days, Qatar has been leading mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran to prevent a widespread military escalation after the US midterm elections taking place on Tuesday.
America launched strikes on the Iranian island of Qeshm on Monday evening in response to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s attempt to target an American fighter, in a strike that American officials described to Ofek News as “limited.”
