US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will head to Europe this week to meet with officials from Ukraine and Russia, according to what the Axios website reported late Monday. The website quoted an unidentified American official as saying, “The talks will bring together Ukraine, European allies, and the United States, in an effort to develop a peace proposal to present to Russia.”
The official added that Witkopf is expected to begin his visit in Oslo, where he will hold talks on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Representatives of Britain, France, Germany and Poland will also attend the meeting, along with officials from NATO and other European officials.
The official added that Witkov then intends to go to Russia, where he "hopes to meet President Vladimir Putin and present ideas."
President Donald Trump accused Ukraine of not offering anything in return for American support.
Trump told reporters in Washington on Monday: “We gave Ukraine a lot, but it gave us nothing. Remember that.”
Meanwhile, the American news site Axios reported that the Ukrainian president complained about Washington's blocking of arms shipments.
According to reports, Zelensky made this accusation during a virtual meeting with members of the US Senate from both the Republican and Democratic parties.
The website reported, citing a transcript of the meeting, that Zelensky said that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth refuses to approve the delivery of Patriot missiles and other air defense missiles, even though NATO countries have already paid for them.
The website quoted Zelensky as saying: “All this indicates that some political decision has been made to slow down the support provided to us.”
The suspension of shipments also affected supplies from other partners to Ukraine, which require Washington's approval, the Washington Post reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Trump also escalated his criticism of Kiev after Zelensky suggested that President Trump's close approach to the Kremlin puts him on the wrong side of history.
"Zelensky doesn't know what he's talking about," Trump responded.
Trump said the Ukrainian president was "not helping much" in efforts to end the war.
