A rumor about the deteriorating health condition of the Egyptian artist Samira Ahmed, and talk about her undergoing a delicate eye surgery that caused her to lose the ability to see normally, sparked a state of anxiety among her fans and friends during the past hours, before the artist revealed the truth of what happened and put an end to the circulating news.
Samira Ahmed said that she was surprised by a huge influx of unusual phone calls from her friends and relatives to check on her health, only to later discover the spread of “slanting rumors” stating that she had undergone a delicate corneal surgery.
She expressed her extreme surprise and annoyance at these lies, confirming in statements to Al Arabiya.net that throughout her long artistic career she had committed to staying away from the limelight and social media platforms, but that did not prevent rumors from attacking her, causing a state of panic among those close to her.
In addition, the Egyptian artist explained the details of what happened, saying that the matter was nothing more than a “simple seasonal allergy” in the eye as a result of the change in the seasons of the year, and that she received the necessary treatment under the supervision of a specialized doctor without the need for any surgical intervention at all.
She also confirmed that she carries out her daily life completely normally, as she spends her time at home with her husband, producer Safwat Ghattas, and is sometimes keen to visit one of the famous clubs in Cairo to meet her friends, led by the Mu’tazila artist Shams Al-Baroudi. She indicated that she received a phone call from the head of the Acting Professions Syndicate, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, who took the initiative to check on her health, and officially asked him to deny these false rumours, given that she does not have any accounts on social media platforms to follow the responses herself.
Samira Ahmed, 87 years old, who was born in Assiut on November 15, 1938, is considered one of the most prominent artistic names. During her film and television career, she presented immortal works firmly established in the public’s conscience. Among her most prominent works in cinema are “The Mute,” “The Struggle of Heroes,” “Mother of the Bride,” “Qandil Umm Hashem,” and “Al-Shaima,” while she presented many dramatic works, including “Tomorrow the Flowers Will Bloom” and “A Woman from the Time of Love.”
It is noteworthy that Samira Ahmed's last work was the series "Mama in the Department" in 2010, accompanied by the late Mahmoud Yassin, after which she disappeared from the limelight and devoted herself to her family life without officially announcing her artistic retirement.
