The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the continued escalation of the Houthi terrorist militia is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and increasing the number of forcibly displaced people, at a time when the country is facing increasing needs and a lack of funding, stressing the priority of protecting civilians and ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian aid.

This came in the Kingdom’s statement delivered by the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Mohsen bin Khathila, during the meetings of the seventy-seventh session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, held in Geneva.

The Kingdom also condemned the repeated attacks carried out by the Houthi militia targeting civilian facilities and civilians in the Kingdom, affirming its right to protect its sovereignty and the safety of its lands, citizens and residents, in accordance with international law.

Bin Khathila stressed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and supporting UNHCR’s efforts to protect refugees and preserve their dignity, stressing the importance of sharing burdens, supporting host countries, and creating the necessary conditions to reach lasting solutions.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom welcomed High Commissioner Barham Salih, on the occasion of his participation in the first meeting of the Executive Committee since assuming his position, praising his interest in improving the conditions of refugees, his communication with host countries, and his awareness of the needs of affected communities.

He pointed out that the Kingdom ranked second in the world and first in the Arab world among the countries donors to humanitarian and relief aid for the year 2025, stressing the importance of linking humanitarian and development work, to ensure that urgent needs are met and the foundations of stability and recovery are built.

He pointed to the efforts of the Saudi Fund for Development in financing vital sectors, including energy, health, transportation and agriculture, in addition to the efforts of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid in providing shelter, food and medical aid in various parts of the world.

Regarding the Gaza Strip, the Kingdom expressed its deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions, stressing its support for efforts aimed at ending the suffering of the population, ensuring the delivery of aid without restrictions, and rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people, in order to reach a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

Also, the Kingdom affirmed its support for Syria’s efforts in recovery and reconstruction, and for creating the necessary conditions for the voluntary, safe and dignified return of Syrian refugees.

In this context, she praised the cooperation between the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and UNHCR in rehabilitating homes and sheltering families returning to their country during the coming winter, calling for supporting the sustainability of returns and enhancing livelihoods.

In Sudan, the Kingdom renewed its support for peace efforts, calling for intensifying the humanitarian response and alleviating the suffering of civilians.

The Kingdom concluded its statement by emphasizing its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and supporting UNHCR in performing its humanitarian mission.
