Baghdad - Ofoq News - Today, Saturday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Farsin Shaheen delivered the State of Palestine’s speech before the fifty-second session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Palestinian people have been facing, since October 7, 2023, the most heinous crimes witnessed in the century, including genocide and ethnic cleansing, in light of the continued Israeli aggression and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people, their land, and their sanctities.
She stressed that the international community, and all countries that support justice and the rule of international law, are required to take all necessary legal and moral measures to stop the aggression of the occupation and the terrorism of the colonialists, and to work to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, stressing the need for member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to assume their political, legal and moral responsibilities towards the crimes and violations to which the Palestinian people are exposed.
Shaheen called on member states to exercise various forms of political, diplomatic and economic pressure to confront the Israeli occupation’s measures aimed at changing the reality on the ground and imposing annexation by force, stressing that the Palestinian people are facing the most difficult challenges in confronting the Israeli war machine, and are adhering to their legitimate national rights despite the extent of suffering and continuing attacks.
It also warned of the dangers of the settlement project in the E1 area, and the associated settlement expansion and confiscation of Palestinian lands, and the resulting threat to Palestinian geographical contiguity and undermining the chances of achieving peace.
The Foreign Minister called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to work to form a protection and support network for countries that take punitive measures against the Israeli occupation, in a way that enhances their ability to continue these steps within the framework of respect for international law and holding those responsible for violations accountable.
Regarding the city of Jerusalem, she pointed to the escalation of incursions and violations targeting the Holy City and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and attempts to impose new facts that affect the existing legal and historical situation, warning of the danger of the continuation of these practices and their repercussions on freedom of worship and stability in the region.
On the economic and financial level, it affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing its reform plan and fulfilling its national and international obligations, despite the ongoing economic and financial blockade, and the Israeli occupation authorities’ detention of Palestinian clearance funds, which amounted to about 7 billion dollars.
Shaheen called on member states to activate the Arab and Islamic financial safety network and provide the necessary financial support to the government of the State of Palestine, enabling it to continue providing basic services and fulfill its obligations towards the Palestinian people.
She also touched on the ongoing Israeli attack on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its headquarters, stressing the importance of the role played by the agency in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees, calling on member states to intensify financial and political support for it, and to ensure the continuation of its work and the fulfillment of its mandate in accordance with the mandate granted to it by the United Nations.
Shaheen stressed the importance of strengthening Islamic solidarity, unifying positions, and taking collective action at the international and legal levels, in a way that contributes to stopping Israeli violations, protecting the Palestinian people, and supporting their legitimate national rights, most importantly their right to freedom, independence, and embodying the establishment of their independent Palestinian state.
