Washington - Ofoq News - An investigation conducted by the American network CNN revealed an indirect financial connection between Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump and his envoy to the Middle East, and Israeli companies linked to the Israeli military establishment, at a time when Kushner plays a pivotal role in the negotiations aimed at stopping the war on Gaza, but he supported the war on it by selling weapons to the Israeli army.
According to the investigation, Kushner's investment company, Affinity Partners, owns the largest stake in the Israeli Phoenix Financial Group, with 7.4%, a stake worth more than $1 billion last July.
Phoenix invests hundreds of millions of dollars in Elbit Systems, one of the largest Israeli military industries, in addition to stakes in other companies that supply the Israeli army with military equipment and services, according to what CNN tracked from Israeli financial records.
These investments gain special importance in light of the role played by Kushner in the Gaza file. He participated in negotiations with Israeli and Palestinian officials, and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and leaders of the Hamas movement as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to revive the ceasefire plan and end the war.
The investigation indicates that the Kushner Company doubled its stake in Phoenix over the past year, while in July it sold about a quarter of its stake, achieving a return of more than five times the value of the original investment, while retaining its position as the largest shareholder in the Israeli group.
But the investigation raises questions about potential conflicts of interest, especially since Kushner works as an unofficial envoy and volunteer for the Trump administration, and not a traditional government employee subject to the same rules regarding financial disclosure and conflicts of interest.
Thus, Kushner appears in a position that combines negotiating to end the war on Gaza on the one hand, and his investment company owning a share in a financial group that invests in companies linked to the Israeli military effort on the other hand, which prompted the investigation to raise questions about the boundaries between his diplomatic role and his private investment interests.
