Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi begins today, Tuesday, an Asian tour that includes South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia, in a move aimed at enhancing bilateral relations with the three countries and promoting political, economic, and investment cooperation.

The Egyptian presidency stated that El-Sisi is heading today to South Korea, at the start of the tour, where he will hold talks with his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-yeol, and will also participate in a roundtable with the heads and representatives of major Korean companies.

The presidential office in Seoul clarified that El-Sisi's visit to South Korea will last until the ninth of October.

The visit comes amid Egyptian and Korean efforts to enhance economic and investment relations, after the two presidents discussed during the Korean president's visit to Egypt in November 2025 the expansion of Korean companies' participation in Egyptian projects and increasing investments.

According to what the Egyptian presidency announced following those discussions, the targeted areas of cooperation included artificial intelligence, communications, and information technology, in addition to manufacturing, petrochemicals, the automotive industry, and shipbuilding, along with discussions on establishing Korean factories in the Suez Canal economic zone.

The discussions also addressed cooperation in the field of education, including a proposal to establish a Korean university specialized in science and technology in Egypt, as well as the possibility of establishing Korean schools, in addition to cultural cooperation.

Among the political files that Cairo and Seoul have previously addressed is the support for stability in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula, combating terrorism, and challenges related to climate change, along with supporting the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The round of talks gains additional importance in light of Egypt's recent trend towards expanding its partnerships with Asian economies, particularly in the fields of investment, manufacturing, technology, and trade, alongside coordinating positions on Middle Eastern crises and the Palestinian issue.

This round also follows consecutive Egyptian-Asian moves; in 2025, Egyptian-Indonesian relations were elevated to the level of strategic partnership, while Egyptian-Korean relations witnessed extensive discussions regarding investments, technology, and industry, while Cairo and Kuala Lumpur are working to develop relations towards a broader strategic partnership.
