Suez Canal: A sudden technical malfunction in the machinery of the “Glory” ship...and it was towed to the “Al-Balah” area for repair.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - After news circulated about the grounding of the ship “Glory” in the Egyptian Suez Canal, on Monday, the Suez Canal Authority explained that the ship’s machinery suffered a sudden technical malfunction, while the authority’s tugs rushed to tow it to the “Al-Balah” area to repair the malfunction. The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, said in a statement that the authority’s maritime rescue team “dealed professionally with a sudden technical malfunction of the machinery of the bulk cargo ship GLORY at kilometer 38, passing as part of the northern convoy on its journey coming from Turkey and heading to China,” adding that “work is underway to tow the idle ship to kilometer 51 and number the canal.”

Rabie stressed that the Suez Canal Authority possesses "the rescue expertise and the navigational and technical insurance capabilities necessary to deal professionally with potential emergency situations." He said, "Four tugboats were deployed, led by the tugboat Port Said, with a pulling force of 95 tons, to quickly deal with the situation and tow the ship, allowing it to resume its transit of the canal again until it stops at the nearest point in the Al-Balah area to repair the fault."

The Suez Canal Authority statement indicated that the ship is 225 meters long and 32 meters wide, with a tonnage of 41 thousand tons, and is affiliated with the shipping agency Inchcape.
