The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council renewed his categorical condemnation of the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing them as “criminal behavior,” and calling on the international community to take action to stop these attacks.
In a Gulf position affirming solidarity with Riyadh, the Bahraini Foreign Minister stressed that the Kingdom’s security is an integral part of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council, stressing his country’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the measures it is taking to preserve its sovereignty and protect its security.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed his rejection of the Houthi attacks targeting the Kingdom, stressing the need for the international community to take action to stop them.
For his part, the Bahraini Foreign Minister condemned the continued attacks by the Houthi militia on civilians in Saudi Arabia, reiterating his country’s position in support of the Kingdom in the face of threats targeting its security and sovereignty.
The statements reflect an emphasis on the interconnectedness of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and the rejection of attacks targeting their lands or residents.
In a related context, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council described the Iranian attacks on the Gulf states as a blatant violation of their sovereignty, stressing the rejection of Iran’s targeting of navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz.
This position gains importance in light of the strategic position of the Strait as one of the most prominent sea lanes for transporting oil and gas and international trade, which makes the security of navigation in it an issue that extends beyond the scope of the region to the global economy.
In turn, the Bahraini Foreign Minister stressed that freedom of navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab represents a pillar of global economic stability, in reference to the importance of protecting sea lanes and ensuring the continuation of international trade movement.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major maritime outlet for energy exports from the Gulf region, while Bab al-Mandab connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and constitutes an important passage for ships heading between Asia and Europe via the Suez Canal.
The Gulf statements highlight the importance of protecting the sovereignty of states and the security of sea lanes, in light of the link between the stability of the region and the safety of international navigation and trade.
