The First Trailer for the Anticipated Film About the Life of the 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson Has Been Released

The first promotional trailer for the film "Michael" has been released, which tells the story of the rise of the "King of Pop" and gives a first glimpse of the performance by his real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, who portrays his late uncle in the film. Michael Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to acute propofol intoxication.

Jaafar appears in the trailer, embodying some of Michael Jackson's most famous moments, including his iconic "Moonwalk" dance and the music video for "Thriller." According to the film's synopsis, it presents "a cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists in the world," exploring the life of the "Smooth Criminal" singer beyond the music world, tracing his journey from discovering his exceptional talent as the leader of the Jackson 5 to the visionary artist whose creative ambition drove him to become the most famous artist in the world.

The trailer does not mention any of the legal troubles faced by the singer, which received extensive media coverage. He was acquitted of child molestation charges after a highly publicized trial in March 2006.

Earlier this year, Matthew Belloni from "Puck" magazine reported that the film faced a significant obstacle due to the inclusion of a script that investigated a 1993 inquiry into sexual abuse allegations made by Jordan Chandler, who was 13 years old at the time, against the singer. However, reports indicated that a settlement in the case included a clause prohibiting dramatization of the Chandler family, which the film's creative team was not aware of until after filming had concluded, necessitating a rewrite of the film, according to "Puck" magazine.

Representatives for the Jackson family heirs and the film's director Antoine Fuqua did not respond to Afaq News' request for comment earlier this year. Chandler was not the only person to accuse Michael Jackson of sexual abuse.

Jackson denied all these allegations during his life, and his family members still deny them. It is not yet clear how this case will be handled in the film. The star-studded cast includes Coleman Domingo as the family patriarch Joe Jackson, and Nia Long as the mother Katherine Jackson.

Other cast members include Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Derek Luke, Lawrence Tate, and Miles Teller. The film "Michael" is directed by Antoine Fuqua, with a screenplay by John Logan, who has been nominated for the Oscars three times.

According to the film's official website, it will be released in theaters on April 24, 2026.
