The Sudanese army regains two areas in the Blue Nile amid escalating confrontations

Military sources reported to Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath on Thursday that the Sudanese army regained control of the Bakuri and Uklele regions in the Blue Nile region, as part of military operations aimed at regaining the areas it lost control in the region.

These developments come in light of the escalation of confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, along with the forces of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North, led by Joseph Toka, on a number of military axes in the Blue Nile region.

Last August, the Rapid Support Forces and the Popular Movement - North announced control of the Bakuri and Sarkum regions, before the Sudanese army sent military reinforcements as part of its efforts to regain the positions it lost.

The Rapid Support Forces also announced, on Wednesday, full control of the “Al-Baraka” area in the Blue Nile region in southeastern Sudan.

She described controlling the "Al-Baraka" area as strategic because it means seizing the largest military bases of the Sudanese army in the region, noting the seizure of vehicles and ammunition belonging to the armed forces.

The Sudanese Army's 4th Infantry Division announced on Tuesday and Monday that an attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces and the Toka Group on Al-Baraka was repelled, with losses among the ranks of the attacking force.

The Baraka area is considered one of the vital areas in the Blue Nile Region, and for weeks it has been witnessing intermittent confrontations between the army on the one hand and the Rapid Support Forces and the Toka Popular Movement on the other hand, as part of the expansion of the battles to the southeast of the country.

The Blue Nile region is witnessing an escalation in military operations this month, which threatens the expansion of confrontations in the border region with Ethiopia and South Sudan.

There has been a fight between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces for control of the country and its economic resources since April 2023.

Meanwhile, relief agencies estimate that the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023 has resulted in the deaths of more than 200,000 people and caused the displacement of more than 13 million, leading to the emergence of the largest hunger and displacement crisis in the world, according to Agence France-Presse.
