The "fake judge"... An Egyptian court sentences him to 10 years in prison on 3 different charges

Today, Tuesday, the Egyptian Ain Shams Misdemeanor Court sentenced the accused, known in the media as the “fake judge,” to 10 years’ imprisonment on three charges, including interference in a public office and fraud. It also sentenced court employees to 3 years’ imprisonment, according to what was published by Egyptian media.

Public Prosecution investigations revealed that the incident dates back to the year 2025, after video clips were monitored circulating on social media sites, which included impersonating a judicial capacity and exploiting it to publish content that violates the law.

Investigations revealed that the accused deliberately filmed pictures and video clips inside a court, wearing a judicial scarf, and then published them on social media sites to make citizens believe that he held a judicial position.

The accused admitted, during his interrogation, that he resorted to filming inside the court to give credibility to his alleged status, exploiting the judicial appearance to lure citizens and seize their money, claiming that he was able to complete the procedures for allocating housing units.

An examination of two mobile phones seized from his possession also resulted in the photos and video clips being investigated, and a number of court employees appeared in them.

Upon hearing the workers’ statements, they confirmed the authenticity of their appearance in the clips, but they denied their knowledge of the accused’s truth or their participation in any illegal activity, explaining that he told them that he worked in one of the judicial bodies, which prompted them to deal with him as a worker in the judicial bodies.

The “fake judge” case goes back to accusing Mustafa Kamal of impersonating a judge, pretending to be an advisor to the State Council, and using this alleged capacity to convince citizens of his ability to help them obtain housing units and seize their money.

According to what was published by media outlets about the investigations, the accused sought the help of a number of employees of the North Cairo Court of First Instance to enable him to enter the courtrooms and photograph inside them after the end of official working hours. He also used a judicial scarf in the photos and clips that he published to give credibility to his allegations.

The case aroused widespread interest after video clips were circulated in which the accused appeared in court, before the competent authorities moved to investigate the incident, and the case was referred to criminal trial, along with other charges related to fraud and seizing citizens’ funds.

On September 27, 2026, the Ain Shams Misdemeanor Court had previously ruled that the accused be imprisoned for two years with hard labor in a separate fraud case, related to his accusation of seizing citizens’ funds on the pretext of his ability to complete the procedures for allocating housing units. It was also decided on October 20 to postpone consideration of his appeal against this ruling until October 27 of this year.
