The first call between the Iranian Foreign Minister and his Saudi and Qatari counterparts after the defeat of Trump’s party

- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed “regional developments” with his Saudi and Qatari counterparts on Thursday, according to a statement by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in light of a state of uncertainty about the possibility of a new war breaking out between Tehran and the United States. The statement stated that Araqchi made two separate phone calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and added that the two calls “discussed regional developments and the latest developments regarding diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing stability to the region.”

It was the first known call of its kind since the Republican Party suffered a major defeat in the US midterm elections, an outcome that Iranian officials hailed as a defeat for Trump. Qatar has played the role of the main mediator between Washington and Tehran since the outbreak of the war in February, but the talks aimed at ending the war have reached a dead end, and a high-ranking Iranian official said this week that the American proposals are not sufficient to reach an agreement.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was subjected to Iranian strikes at the beginning of the American-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic. Iran's allies and proxies, including groups in Iraq and Yemen, have also launched repeated attacks targeting Saudi oil facilities and civilian infrastructure, placing unprecedented pressure on the kingdom.

Fears that renewed US strikes on Iran after the midterm elections would lead to further Iranian retaliation have led the two sides to return to the negotiating table. Last month, Iran hosted a meeting that included Saudi Arabia and other regional powers, with the aim of reducing tensions.

A regional source told Ofoq News Network on Thursday that the defeat of the Republican Party in the elections has reduced the risk of renewed war.
