Washington - Ofoq News - US President Donald Trump said that the resumption of attacks on Iran after the midterm elections in the United States is “possible,” noting that Tehran is seeking to reach an agreement, but he rejected the latest Iranian proposal for a ceasefire, considering that it does not achieve the conditions he wants.
Trump added, in statements to Time magazine, that the economic situation in Iran is “very bad” and that it “wants to make a deal,” but he stressed that he wants a “real deal,” saying that what he rejected a year ago will not be approved by him today.
The US President touched on the Iranian nuclear file, saying that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, adding that his country may “annihilate Iran” if necessary, according to what the magazine reported.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that the Iranians had made an offer regarding its reopening, but he had only seen some aspects of it, and he considered that the offer was “simply not enough.” He also said that the United States controls the Strait and has closed it to Iran.
Regarding American military capabilities, Trump said that his country possesses “a lot of weapons,” and that its military situation is “excellent,” noting that the United States stores large quantities of weapons and intends to distribute them to its allies. At the same time, he denied reports about a shortage of American ammunition, describing most of them as “fake news.”
Trump said that the United States had transported, the previous night, the largest amount of oil through the Strait of Hormuz “more than ever before,” considering that oil prices would fall to their previous levels once an agreement was reached with Iran.
Trump concluded his speech by stressing that “our situation is very good regarding Iran,” and that Tehran “wants to reach an agreement.”
