US President Donald Trump spoke at a campaign rally for the midterm elections at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, to rally supporters ahead of pivotal elections across the country.
Trump spoke about the war with Iran and said that Iran's possession of a nuclear weapon is unacceptable and cannot be allowed.
Trump stressed that higher oil prices are a "small price" compared to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The President indicated that the Iran issue will end immediately after the elections.
The president explained that the Iran war will end soon, whether through an agreement or military action, adding that he does not really know who he should deal with in Iran.
He again repeated his statement that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon.
Trump rules out banning diesel exports after Europe's decision to pump from its reserves
Trump had confirmed on Friday that the United States would not impose a ban on diesel exports, praising the decision of European countries to pump quantities of their reserves.
President Donald Trump on Friday praised the decision of European countries to pump diesel from their stocks, while downplaying the threat of imposing a US ban on the export of this fuel.
Trump said at the White House in response to a question from an Agence France-Presse correspondent whether the ban on American exports had been ruled out, "Actually, it was not actually on the table. But what Europe did was great."
Trump added, "I asked for it. Europe has large quantities of diesel and they are making a major global contribution (...) and so are we."
He added, "We will not impose an export ban, but rather we will do what we have to do."
Trump had stated on September 22 that he supported imposing a ban on diesel exports, a move that would have reduced prices for American consumers but would put pressure on supplies in other regions of the world.
On Thursday, Trump said that the United States was still studying this idea, at a time when his administration was putting pressure on Europe to release quantities of its stockpiles.
The G7 countries agreed on Friday to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from their stocks over a period of four months, with the aim of alleviating concerns regarding global energy supplies that were exacerbated by the Iran war.
Trump and the Republican Party face the risk of losing control of Congress in the midterm elections next month, amid a state of popular discontent over this war and its impact on energy prices.
