US President Donald Trump spent nearly two hours on the podium, Tuesday, during an election rally in Greenville, North Carolina, reviewing his intense agenda to support Republican candidates in the midterm elections scheduled for next November, in an effort to help his party maintain control of Congress.

Trump said to his supporters: "I'm doing something different this time. I'm working like a dog," referring to the amount of effort he is making to support Republicans in the upcoming elections.

He explained that his current approach differs from his handling of the midterm elections in the past, adding: "When I was not a candidate, I did not actually campaign. I used to let others handle that, and I thought the matter would end there. What did I know?"

Trump's electoral moves come at a time when a number of Republican candidates are facing intense competition, or are lagging behind their Democratic competitors in several states traditionally rated Republican. Last month, Trump announced plans to visit 35 swing electoral districts before the election.

Since the Republican Party's two-day election convention in Dallas last month, Trump has participated in 17 campaign stops. The US President said: “I held about 10 rallies in about eight days,” revealing his intention to appear again in North Carolina before Election Day.

He added: "We have about 15 days, and I will participate in about 18 electoral rallies. This is hard work."

Trump's speech in Greenville lasted about an hour and 52 minutes, becoming one of his longest election speeches during the current cycle, and one of his longest speeches in the recent period.

During the rally, Trump called on Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley, and a number of Republican candidates for other offices in the state, to come to the podium and deliver brief speeches.

Whatley is running in the race to succeed retiring Republican Senator Thom Tillis, but he is about 10 percentage points behind his Democratic rival, former Governor Roy Cooper, according to the latest average of opinion polls published by the Real Clear Politics website.

Trump won North Carolina in the 2024 presidential election by a margin of nearly three percentage points.

Trump also hosted Nascar racing legend Richard Petty, who likened the upcoming elections to a great race, referring to the importance of choosing candidates capable of winning.

Beatty said of Trump: “This is the best driver we have ever had,” adding that what is required is to choose the best maintenance team to support this driver. He continued: “We have to go out and choose the best possible pit team for the best driver.”

Trump's intense moves reflect a bet on his personal ability and electoral popularity to help Republicans maintain their majority in Congress, amid close competition in a number of crucial districts and races.
