Yemeni forces thwart intense Houthi attacks on several axes in Taiz

During the past 24 hours, the Yemeni government forces and the popular resistance in Taiz foiled a series of attacks and infiltration attempts launched by the Houthi militia on a number of fronts in the governorate, in a wide field escalation that extended from Maqbana and Jabal Habashi in the west to Al-Aqroud and Sami in the south, and the fronts surrounding the city of Taiz.

The Taiz Axis Command said that more than 100 members of the Houthi militia were killed and dozens were injured during the confrontations, which were accompanied by air strikes targeting the group's sites and gatherings, noting the destruction and damage of a number of military vehicles and the burning of a weapons store.

According to a military source from the Armed Forces Media Center, the army and resistance forces were able to break a series of Houthi attacks that began on Wednesday evening, during which dozens of members were killed, wounded and captured, including field commanders.

The warplanes launched a series of raids on Houthi sites and gatherings in the southeast of Taiz, the Himyar front in the Maqbanah District, west of the governorate, and Bani Omar, south of the governorate, amid continuing confrontations in a number of axes.

The fighting fronts in Taiz are distributed between the western axis, which includes Maqbanah, Jabal Habashi, and Al-Kadha, and the southern and southeastern axis, which includes Al-Aqroud and Sami, in addition to the fronts surrounding the city of Taiz, while the areas of Al-Shamaytain, Al-Maafer, and the roads leading out of the governorate constitute areas of military and logistical importance.

The escalation recently extended to the road linking Taiz and Aden, as field sources said that members of the Houthi militia infiltrated on Wednesday night an area in the Al-Maqtara District in Lahj Governorate, and mined one of the rainwater drainage culverts on the Haijat Al-Abd line, before detonating it remotely at dawn on Thursday, which led to damage to the road and the cessation of vehicle movement.

The sources added that the bombing disrupted traffic on the vital road, which witnesses heavy daily movement of travelers, trucks and vehicles between Taiz and Aden, noting that the infiltration operation was preceded by artillery shelling and shooting from Houthi positions on the Al-Ahkoum front, and a number of bullets reached citizens’ homes.

The Haijat al-Abd line is one of the most important roads that Taiz residents rely on to travel to Aden and the southern governorates, and it represents a major corridor for the movement of passengers, goods and supplies, which makes any interruption in it an additional burden on the population and the transport movement between the two governorates.

During the past few days, the Houthi militia had carried out an infiltration attempt through the Najd al-Barad, al-Ashbout and Souq al-Rabu’ axes in the al-Maqtara District. The forces of the Tur al-Baha axis said that they aimed to block the road and tighten the siege on Taiz, before confronting it and forcing it to retreat to its positions in the Al-Ahkoum Mountains.

In Samea District, the Popular Resistance said that the Houthis sent military reinforcements to the Al-Hilya area, northeast of the district, and stormed villages with crews, amid popular resistance and rejection of them, calling on the people of the district to raise their readiness and support government forces.

For his part, Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan affirmed the readiness and cohesion of the internal front, calling for unified efforts and adherence to the decisions of the National Defense Council, while the sheikhs and notables of the governorate announced their readiness to continue supporting the fronts and strengthening the forces stationed there.
