Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday the resumption of intelligence exchange with the United States, allowing his country to receive advance warnings about Russian strikes.
Zelensky revealed that this change came after conversations with US officials, including a phone call he made earlier today with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He told reporters in Oslo: “We are grateful that intelligence cooperation is going well. I am talking here about early warning, which is very important for our people, for children, adults and civilians, as we can hear warnings when a ballistic missile is on its way to us. Therefore, we are grateful to the American side now that this system is working.”
In another context, Zelensky considered that Kiev should be represented in any meeting that includes the leaders of the United States, Russia and China, following reports of the possibility of holding a meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping to discuss the war.
He said: “I do not know what the tripartite meeting between the United States, China and Russia will discuss, as this is a matter for them. But of course, if there are issues related to Ukraine and our future, this can only be accepted with our presence at the negotiating table. This is completely clear.”
The Ukrainian president arrived in Norway on Tuesday to hold talks with US special envoys Steve Witkopf and Jared Kushner, with the participation of European officials, as part of an effort to direct diplomatic efforts “towards a more constructive path” in the midst of tensions between Kiev and Washington.
Zelensky stated in the press conference he held in Oslo following his talks with American envoys that Ukraine will not lose the war to Russia, but it is losing its people, and that it is committed to finding ways to bring about peace.
He reiterated that Ukraine hopes to discuss the main issues related to how to end the war during a tripartite meeting between the leaders.
