Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of deliberately inflicting the greatest possible amount of casualties and damage among civilians, after launching 3 ballistic missiles equipped with cluster warheads on the capital, Kiev, during the night.

Zelensky said, in a post on his account on the

The Ukrainian president also considered that the attack was not accidental, saying that the choice of the weapon and the targeted area was deliberate, and there was no military target nearby, even in theory, while he stated that “Russia has not changed its method of fighting this war, and has not taken any steps that indicate a real desire to end it.”

Zelensky added that the Russian attacks continued throughout the day, coinciding with the sounding of sirens in Kiev and other cities, noting that a passenger train was targeted in Kharkiv, in addition to attacks that targeted Dnipro, Marhanets, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and areas in the provinces of Kiev, Zhytomir, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Rivne.

While he referred to Moscow's targeting of energy infrastructure in Ukraine, saying that more than 170 strikes have targeted vital energy facilities since October 11, despite Ukrainian forces shooting down large numbers of "Shahed" drones and some missiles.

Therefore, the Ukrainian President called on his country's partners to accelerate the delivery of previously approved defense aid packages, announcing that he directed the Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the military leadership and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to inform partners of developments in the field situation and the threats facing his country based on intelligence information.

Zelensky's statements came at a time when diplomatic moves aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, which began in February 2022, are continuing.

On Wednesday, Zelensky called for freezing the current battle lines, considering this a first step towards reaching a ceasefire. He said, in an interview with the "Fox & Friends" program, that freezing the status quo may represent an effective way to end the war.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said that he believes that settling the war is closer than ever before, referring to talks he held during the past few days with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

For his part, US envoy Steve Witkoff described his talks with Putin as "constructive" and said that work is still ongoing, indicating that the talks will continue at the technical level with the participation of the United States, Russia and Ukraine.

However, despite these movements, the chances of reaching a ceasefire agreement have not yet been decided, in light of the continuing attacks and the differing positions regarding the conditions for ending the war.
