Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his country's readiness to participate in peace talks during the G20 summit scheduled to be held in the United States, but he clarified that Kiev had not received an invitation to participate in a meeting of this kind.
Zelensky said, during a joint press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petri Orpo in Kiev, on Thursday, that the primary goal is to force Russia to end the war, expressing his hope that a meeting could be held in Florida during the G20 summit mediated by US President Donald Trump and international partners, according to what was reported by Reuters.
In a related context, Zelensky said that the speed of the Starlink satellite communications service had not returned to its normal level, expressing his hope to hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the coming days to discuss the issue.
The Ukrainian President indicated that he discussed with the Finnish side strengthening cooperation in the field of satellite communications, including making greater use of Finnish capabilities in this field.
Zelensky also announced the signing of seven cooperation documents with Finland, with a total value of 300 million euros, and said that the agreements include expanding cooperation opportunities with Nokia and Ice Eye in the field of satellite communications, in addition to supporting the sectors of logistics, energy, and infrastructure protection, according to his post on the “X” website.
At the field level, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces carried out a massive attack overnight using precision weapons and drones, targeting military industrial facilities and transportation infrastructure in Kiev, in addition to port facilities in the Odessa region and ships that it said were being used for the benefit of Ukrainian forces.
The Russian "TASS" agency reported that the ministry said that the strikes targeted facilities related to the production and storage of missiles and drones, and also indicated that the "Yuzhny" road and railway bridge in Kiev was targeted, which it said was used to transport military cargo.
On the other hand, the Associated Press reported that Russian attacks with missiles and drones targeted Kiev during the night, resulting in deaths and dozens of injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities. The agency also reported attacks on residential areas and infrastructure in the capital and the Kharkiv region.
These developments come amid moves to resume negotiations between Russia and Ukraine under American mediation. Reuters quoted Zelensky on Wednesday as saying that Kiev supported an American proposal to hold tripartite talks at the level of negotiating teams as soon as possible, preferably before the beginning of November.
At the same time, the Associated Press quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that Russian President Vladimir Putin received an invitation to attend the G20 summit in Miami during December, but he had not decided on his participation.
The discrepancy between Zelensky's announcement that Kiev would not receive an invitation to peace talks during the summit is highlighted, and what the Kremlin announced regarding Putin's invitation, at a time when the arrangements for potential negotiations are still unresolved.
