Egyptian driver Ahmed Awad, who was injured in the shooting accident in Khartoum, which resulted in the death of two of his colleagues, returned to his hometown of Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate, to complete his treatment.

After his arrival in Cairo, Ahmed Awad narrated to Al Arabiya.net and Al Hadath.net the details of the difficult hours and days he spent in Sudan, describing the moments of tragedy that witnessed the death of his colleagues Muhammad Lutfi Al-Sayyid and Ikrami Muhammad Shafiq.

He said that they had entered the market with the truck to unload their goods and sell them next to the Export Development Bank in the local market in Khartoum, until he was surprised by one of the Sudanese citizens firing bullets from the Kalashnikov rifle he was in possession of at his colleagues as they were doing their work in the market, which led to the death of two of his colleagues and injury to him, and passers-by immediately intervened to take him to the hospital.

Awad confirmed that what happened was very painful and shocking, especially since they were not strangers to Sudanese lands, but were accustomed to traveling to it and being among its people. He stressed that his passport carried more than 10 entry and exit visas to and from Sudan, stressing that the Sudanese people enjoy kindness and generosity, and this incident does not in any way express the character of these people.

Awad said that the accident was sudden and unexpected, explaining that he received three bullets in his leg, and the doctor told him that part of his bones were shattered. The injured driver indicated that the shooting caused an extreme state of terror and anxiety among the drivers amid extremely harsh conditions, as everyone’s eyes were fixed on the Egyptian state’s intervention to end the crisis and secure their return.

Awad confirmed that the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum was following up the situation with them moment by moment, and that external efforts and diplomatic protocols contributed directly to returning the bodies of his two colleagues to their hometowns in Egypt and burying them, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

For his part, Representative Ahmed Al-Hawari, a member of the Senate from the village of the driver Ahmed Awad, confirmed to Al-Arabiya.net and Al-Hadath.net that the driver’s health condition receives great attention and careful follow-up to provide all necessary medical and psychological support until he fully recovers.

The Senator concluded his statements by announcing the decision of the “Hama Al-Watan” Party to organize an Umrah trip for the driver as soon as he fully recovers, in appreciation of the harsh conditions he endured during the recent events in Sudan, and to share with him and his family the joy of survival and safe return to the embrace of the homeland.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced the death of two Egyptians and the injury of a third in a shooting incident by a Sudanese citizen in a popular market in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Monday.

It turned out that the two deceased Egyptians were Muhammad Lutfi Al-Sayyid Shakhba, aged 30, from the village of Al-Kafr Al-Jadid, affiliated with the city of Mit Salsel, Dakahlia Governorate.
