A fire aboard a tanker after it was hit by a missile in the Strait of Hormuz

Bethlehem - Ofoq News - A tanker was attacked by a missile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British Navy Merchant Marine Transport Coordination Center (UKMTO), which confirmed the safety of the crew and the lack of data on the degree of damage.

The center said in a statement: “The UKMTO received a report about an accident in the Strait of Hormuz. The captain of a tanker that was leaving the strait reported that the ship’s left boat was hit by an unknown missile, which led to a fire.

The crew was reported to be safe. At the time of receiving the information, no data is available on the degree of damage or potential environmental impact.”

The British Authority also stated, earlier on Saturday, that it had received reports from ship captains who reported receiving instructions via radio transmission to leave their ship docking locations near Ras Al Khaimah in the Emirates.

Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that a giant oil tanker carrying crude oil collided with a sea mine while trying to leave the Strait of Hormuz via an “unauthorized route.”

It is noteworthy that the Revolutionary Guard has repeatedly warned ship operators against using routes contrary to the route set by Tehran for sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

While the United States confirms that passing ships are protected by the US Navy present in the region on special routes, with the exception of ships entering or leaving Iranian territorial waters, in implementation of the naval blockade imposed by the US administration on Tehran’s imports and exports.
