The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt renewed its “categorical denial” of what is being circulated on some social media pages and sites regarding changing the prices of petroleum products, stressing that the prices being circulated and promoted as new prices that will be applied are incorrect and are not based on any official decision.
The Ministry said, in a statement today, Sunday, that work continues at the current prices without any change, stressing that the committee formed to follow up on the automatic pricing mechanism for petroleum products has not yet been held, and no decision or recommendation has been issued regarding moving the prices of petroleum products.
The Ministry explained that the failure of the committee to convene to date categorically denies the validity of the new prices being circulated or the increase rates being published on social media sites, stressing that any developments or decisions related to the prices of petroleum products will be officially announced through the Ministry and the concerned authorities.
The Ministry referred to its previous statement issued on September 24, 2026, in which it denied the validity of what was circulated in this regard, renewing its call not to be led by undocumented information circulated through social media platforms.
In a related context, the Ministry denied what was circulated regarding the existence of a shortage of butane cylinders in some governorates, confirming that the butane supply system operates normally and regularly, and that refineries produce and pump the butane product normally, and the operations of transporting and filling it in bottling factories are organized.
The Ministry confirmed that bulk gas reserves allocated for filling butane cylinders are available within the filling factories, which are operating at full capacity and according to market needs, and there are no indications of a shortage in the available quantities.
She explained that the butane cylinder distribution system operates regularly in various governorates, and the necessary quantities are provided to meet the needs of citizens, stressing the continued daily monitoring of the situation of supplies, production and distribution to ensure the regular arrival of cylinders to various regions.
The Egyptian market is awaiting the regular meeting of the automatic pricing committee for petroleum products, amid expectations of a new movement in fuel prices, after the big jump in global oil prices.
The expectations come at a time when the Egyptian economy is facing additional pressures from the decline in the exchange rate of the pound to about 52 pounds against the dollar, which raises the cost of importing energy and petroleum products.
Attention is turning to the committee meeting in light of the continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region, and the resulting rise in global energy costs to high levels, in addition to the decline in domestic natural gas production rates in Egypt, which led to a widening of the import gap and increased reliance on external energy sources to meet market needs.
