Israeli media said today, Saturday, that the Israeli army attempted to assassinate Ali Al-Amoudi, deputy head of the political bureau of Hamas and the movement’s current leader in the Gaza Strip, in a raid targeting western Gaza City, while the results of the operation are not yet clear.

Israeli Channel 12 quoted sources as saying that the army carried out an operation this morning targeting Al-Amoudi, who succeeded Yahya Al-Sinwar as leader of the movement in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli sources explained that the results of the operation were not yet clear, and it was not known whether Al-Amoudi was injured in the raid.

The assassination attempt coincided with an Israeli air strike on a residential building west of Gaza City, which resulted in the killing of at least five Palestinians, including four women, and the wounding of more than five others with varying injuries, according to Palestinian medical and local sources.

Medical sources at Al-Shifa Medical Complex said that the dead, four women and a man, were taken to the hospital along with a number of injured people, including a condition described as critical.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that the raid targeted the ground floor of the “Al-Asala” building near the United Nations Roundabout, west of Gaza City, and caused major damage to the ground and first floors, while search and rescue operations continued at the site.

Officials in the health and civil defense sectors said that at least five Palestinians were killed in the raid, while residents reported that there were other people inside the building at the time of the targeting and the possibility that there were missing people under the rubble.

The developments come in light of an Israeli escalation against Hamas over the past weeks, as Israel says that the movement is re-arming itself and launching attacks in violation of the US-brokered ceasefire reached in October 2025.

Hamas denies trying to launch attacks or rebuild its arsenal, and accuses Israel of undermining the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

According to health officials in the Strip, at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire last October, while the Israeli army says four of its soldiers were killed by gunmen in Gaza during the same period.
