An explosion in a gas line in the Damascus countryside takes 3 stations out of service

The Syrian Electricity Company announced, on Wednesday, that the Deir Ali, Nasiriyah, and Tishreen generating stations were out of service, as a result of an explosion that occurred on the gas line at the Tishreen station in the Damascus countryside, without specifying its causes yet, which led to the cessation of the gas supplies needed to operate the stations.

The company said on its Telegram channel that the specialized teams are continuing to deal with the incident, noting that the withdrawal of these stations from service will lead to a decrease in the amounts of electrical energy generated and a temporary increase in rationing hours, as a result of the shortage in available generating capacity, adding that developments related to the status of the stations and the reality of the electrical supply will be published successively.

In turn, the Director of the Information Department at the Ministry of Energy, Abdul Hamid Salat, stated in a statement to the official SANA agency that the specialized teams were able to close the gas valves and isolate the damaged line at the Tishreen Station.

Slat also confirmed that the teams are continuing to secure the site and follow up on the fire until the amount of gas remaining inside the line is consumed after closing the valves, until it is completely extinguished, in preparation for the start of the technical inspection of the explosion site.

In the same context, the Syrian Civil Defense announced that it had controlled the fire that broke out in a gas pipeline at the Tishreen thermal station near Harran al-Awamid in the eastern Damascus countryside, and had moved on to the cooling process.

The Civil Defense told SANA that two injuries were recorded as a result of the fire. They were given first aid and the two injured were transferred to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Field Hospital near the Conference Palace in the Damascus countryside.

For his part, Energy Minister Mohamed Al-Bashir revealed that some gas lines and electricity cables were damaged as a result of the explosion at the thermal station.

Al-Bashir added to Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath that the causes of the explosion have not been determined yet.

It is noteworthy that Deir Ali, Nasiriyah, and Tishreen stations are among the main generation stations linked to the electricity system in the Damascus countryside, and their operation depends on fuel supplies received through the gas transmission network, which makes the regular flow of gas an essential factor in maintaining the readiness of the generating sets and the stability of the quantities of energy produced.
