An explosion sounded in the city of Zahedan, southeastern Iran, on Wednesday, without its source or cause immediately becoming clear, while local authorities began an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.

Iranian citizens heard an explosion in the vicinity of Republic Street in the city of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, according to what Fars News Agency reported, which indicated that the source of the sound has not yet been identified.

While the Governor of Zahedan, Jamshid Rakhshaninsab, confirmed that a report had been received about hearing the sound of an explosion resulting from an “acoustic object” in an area surrounding a police station in Zahedan, explaining that the investigation into the incident began immediately after receiving the report, and that verification operations to determine the source of the sound and its cause are still continuing.

He also pointed out that precise details regarding the cause of the explosion have not yet been announced, according to what was stated in statements to Tasnim Agency.

At the same time, the General Directorate of Security in Fars Province announced that bombing operations would be carried out within a mine in the city of Shiraz, on Thursday, stressing that there was no reason for concern among citizens if they heard voices tomorrow.

This came as Iran raised the level of preparedness in dozens of vital entities and installations, in anticipation of the possibility of infrastructure being exposed to attacks, amid continuing tension and previous American threats to target facilities inside the country. The head of the Iranian Civil Defense Organization, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, said that about 46 executive and operational bodies, which are supposed to have plans to respond in times of war, are now prepared to deal with wartime conditions.
