Bethlehem - Ofoq News - In light of the rapid developments witnessed in the Palestinian arena, and the gaps and problems that accompanied the preparatory path for the Palestinian National Council elections, the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a political statement in which it called for a review of this path, and a reconsideration of the formation of the preparatory committee, and the subsequent suspension of the work of all technical committees in various countries, to make room for the participation of all national factions, forces and figures, including forces not represented in the committee, and to expand the base of participation in it.
The Democratic Front has emphasized this matter on more than one occasion, and renewed its position in the last meeting held by the Executive Committee of the PLO, and considered that expanding the base of participation in preparing for the elections constitutes an essential step to enhance confidence in the electoral process, provide the elements for its success, and consolidate the legitimacy of Palestinian national institutions.
The Political Bureau stresses that elections cannot play their role in renewing legitimacy and rebuilding national institutions if they take place in light of the political and institutional division. Hence, addressing the gaps that appeared during the previous stage is still possible, and requires a clear political will that strengthens national partnership, rejects isolation and exclusion, and resorts to dialogue and consensus on issues that affect the future of the Palestinian political system and its national institutions.
The Political Bureau of the Democratic Front confirms that the comprehensive national dialogue, in which all forces, factions and national figures participate, has become more urgent and necessary to discuss various issues, including the general elections, and to ensure everyone’s participation in them without exclusion, and on the basis of national consensus and democratic partnership, and it is still continuing its efforts with the various forces to ensure that the dialogue is held as quickly as possible.
In light of the current political circumstances, and the increasing challenges and risks facing the Palestinian issue, the Political Bureau stresses the need for a unified national strategy to protect national rights, defend the right of our people to self-determination and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and guarantee the right of Palestinian refugees to return in accordance with relevant international resolutions. This requires a comprehensive national framework capable of unifying the Palestinian political position and decision, and mobilizing national energies in the face of the challenges and dangers to which the Palestinian cause is exposed.
