Egypt called on the UN Security Council, on Saturday, to take measures against a country neighboring Sudan due to its involvement in the war.
Egypt wondered about the reasons for the Council’s reluctance to deal seriously and firmly with the evidence and evidence confirming this country’s involvement in enabling attacks by rebel militias and mercenaries, including attacks using drones on Blue Nile State.
Ambassador Ihab Mostafa Awad, Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations, stressed that there is no logical justification for the Security Council's refusal to issue a direct and explicit warning to this country, demanding that it immediately and completely stop fueling the conflict, and prevent civilians from being exposed to further destruction, intimidation, and systematic violations.
In his speech before the session, the representative of Egypt expressed Cairo’s deep concern about the ongoing military escalation and the expansion of armed confrontations in Sudanese territory, especially the direct targeting of civilians, service facilities, and vital facilities, warning of the danger of deteriorating field conditions in Blue Nile State, and the resulting waves of new mass displacement that might result from this tension, exacerbating the existing humanitarian catastrophe.
The Egyptian delegate renewed his country's condemnation in the strongest terms of the grave violations committed by the militia against the Sudanese people, stressing the need to block the policy of impunity for those responsible for these crimes, and hold all those involved accountable, as well as taking firm stances against entities and parties that contribute to igniting the furnace of conflict.
On the humanitarian level, Ambassador Ihab Mustafa Awad pointed to the exceptional burdens borne by the Egyptian state as a result of the humanitarian and economic repercussions resulting from the Sudanese crisis, stressing that Cairo will continue to host about one and a half million Sudanese citizens and provide them with all forms of support, based on the close, historical and fraternal ties that unite the two peoples.
The Sudanese crisis is witnessing a complex and escalating phase, in light of the expansion of military confrontations on the ground, and the intensification of international and regional polarization diplomatically.
In this context, the fronts of the Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions witnessed a widespread escalation in fighting using drones, amid accusations of the Rapid Support Forces targeting civilians, service facilities, and water stations.
On the other hand, the Sudanese army launched extensive sweeping operations to control the supply routes linking the Kordofan and Darfur regions, in an attempt to cut off the supply lines of the Rapid Support Forces, while the city of El Fasher represents a hotbed of escalating clashes and tension, in light of the siege and ongoing fighting, amid repeated UN and international warnings of worsening violations against the besieged population.
