Cairo - Afaq News - Egyptian media figures, MPs, and influencers launched a fierce attack on Israeli Finance Minister "Bezalel Smotrich" after his statements in which he hinted at the possibility of targeting the Sinai Peninsula if Israel were attacked by Egypt, with some responding by saying that in the event of a confrontation, "there will be no Israel."
Smotrich had said during a recorded interview: What would prevent Egypt from attacking us? If they attack us, there will be no Sinai, at least, remarks that came coinciding with Egypt commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the October War of 1973.
According to available information, no official Egyptian response has been issued regarding Smotrich's statements, while his words sparked angry reactions from Egyptian media and parliamentary figures.
The reactions come in conjunction with statements from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on the occasion of the October War anniversary, in which he affirmed that Egypt "does not compromise its land," and that the armed forces are on high alert to defend the country, its resources, and its national security "at all times and under any circumstances."
Egypt and Israel are linked by a peace treaty signed in Washington on March 26, 1979, following the Camp David Accords, which stipulated the end of the state of war and Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula, along with agreed-upon security arrangements between the two sides.
