From Baalbek to Dahiya... new details of the Hezbollah explosives shipment

Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources revealed new details about the shipment of explosives that was seized at the Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint in Lebanon, confirming that it contained nails and metal balls, and that its destination was the southern suburb of Beirut, to be delivered to a person called “Zulfiqar.”

The sources explained that the two Hezbollah members arrested in connection with the case belong to the “Al-Layliki” and “Amhaz” families, and that they confessed to receiving orders to transport the shipment, which was delivered to them by a party leader named “Sajid” in Baalbek.

This information adds details about the route of the shipment and the people associated with its transportation, after the announcement, on Friday, of the seizure of 500 kilograms of highly explosive materials inside a car and the arrest of two people belonging to Hezbollah.

According to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources, the process of transporting the shipment began from Baalbek, where the leader, Sajid, delivered it, and it was to be transported to the southern suburb and delivered to Zulfiqar.

The sources confirmed that the detainees admitted that the transfer of explosives was based on orders they received, without revealing the full names of the people concerned or specifying the party that issued those orders.

It also reported that the confiscated explosives contained nails and metal balls, but it did not clarify the final purpose of the shipment or the nature of the use for which it was intended.

A Lebanese security source revealed, on Friday, that the Internal Security Forces stopped a Dodge Caravan at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint, and seized inside it 250 kilograms of TNT and 250 kilograms of C4 (C-4), which are used in bombing and booby-trapping operations.

The source indicated that two people belonging to Hezbollah were arrested, and the detainees and seized items were handed over to the military police in the Lebanese army to expand the investigation, according to what was reported by the correspondent of Al-Arabiya, Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath.

The Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint is located on a road linking Beirut to the Bekaa, and extending through the Masnaa crossing into Syrian territory. The road witnesses the movement of trucks, public transport vehicles, and civilian vehicles, making it a major hub for transportation between the capital and the eastern regions.

The case comes as the Lebanese authorities continue their measures to control security, and in light of the government’s adherence to restricting weapons to the state and ending armed demonstrations outside the framework of legitimate institutions.

Since last summer, the government has banned Hezbollah's security activities in the country, and reiterated its commitment to continuing the arms control process, according to the previous report by Al Arabiya.net.

While the new information reveals the place of delivery of the shipment and its intended destination, determining its purpose and the rest of the responsibilities associated with its transportation remain subject to investigations, as the sources’ statements did not include an announcement of a specific target that the explosives were intended to target.
