The Council consists of 15 countries, each with one vote, including five permanent member countries with veto power: France, China, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, and 10 non-permanent member countries elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly according to the approved geographic distribution. In addition to Greece, they are: Denmark, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Bahrain, Somalia, Liberia, Latvia, Pakistan, and Panama.
The Security Council is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, which includes the Secretariat, the General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice, in addition to the Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council, the latter of which is ineffective.
