In a joint statement, Damascus and Amman agree to “form a joint security committee” to investigate the Jordanian strikes

On Tuesday, Syria and Jordan announced that they had reached an agreement to form a joint security committee to investigate the strikes launched by the Jordanian army, on Monday, on areas in southern Syria, where it announced that it had targeted the sites of “terrorist organizations” linked to the attack on a church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate, on Friday. The Syrian Ministry of Health announced civilian casualties in Daraa Governorate as a result of this operation.

According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Al-Safadi, agreed to “form a joint security committee to find out all the details and facts of the recent operations, follow up on their repercussions, and develop field and intelligence coordination mechanisms to deal with terrorist threats, in a way that ensures the preservation of Syrian sovereignty and the protection of the lives of innocent civilians.” She added: “The agreement came during a phone call that Al-Shaibani received from Al-Safadi on Tuesday, during which they affirmed the depth of the distinguished historical fraternal relations that bring together the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the common keenness to strengthen and develop them in various fields, and to overcome everything that might disturb their peace through frank and responsible fraternal dialogue, based on the firm conviction of the interconnectedness of the security of the two countries and their common destiny.”

In Jordan, Petra News Agency reported that Al-Safadi "stressed Jordan's full respect for Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens." She added, "He stressed that Jordan considers Syria's security and stability part of its security, and is proud of the unprecedented cooperation, coordination, and trust that the historical fraternal relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples have reached."

He stressed that: “The bombing operations carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces against sites of the terrorist organization ISIS were based on field information and to neutralize confirmed threats and imminent terrorist operations that were targeting the security of Jordan.” Al-Safadi expressed “deep regret and pain over the casualties of innocent civilians during these operations directed against ISIS, which poses a common danger to the two countries. He offered his deepest condolences and sympathy to the brotherly Syrian people, and wishes for recovery.” Urgent treatment for the injured.

Al-Safadi stressed that Jordan "is as keen on the safety of Syrian citizens as it is on its own."
