Intercepting Houthi missiles towards Riyadh, Khamis Mushait, and the southern region.. What did the “coalition” announce?

The “Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen,” led by Saudi Arabia, announced on Sunday the interception and destruction of 10 ballistic missiles launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen towards the southern region of the Kingdom, along with a ballistic missile towards the capital, Riyadh, a “cruise” missile towards Khamis Mushait, and a drone in the Riyadh region. The spokesman for the coalition forces, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, said in separate posts on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), that the air defenses intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched by the group towards the southern region.

In another post, Al-Maliki announced the interception and destruction of a cruise missile launched by the group towards Khamis Mushait, south of the Kingdom. The coalition spokesman also announced that the air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh, in addition to a drone in the same area.

The announcements did not include additional details regarding the timing of the missile and drone launch, or whether the interceptions resulted in damage or casualties. On Saturday, the Saudi Civil Defense announced the fall of shrapnel resulting from the interception of two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the regions of Mecca and Medina.

The official Saudi News Agency (SPA) reported that the Civil Defense in the regions of Mecca and Medina “began falling fragments and intercepting two ballistic missiles launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards the regions of Mecca and Medina.” The agency added in its report: “The process of intercepting the two ballistic missiles led to parts of them falling in (Wadi Al-Mughammas) in the Holy Capital, and parts of the interception fragments in the Al-Nuzha neighborhood in Jeddah Governorate, Wadi Jalil in Taif Governorate, and the Mastourah Center in Rabigh Governorate.”
