An explosion was heard on the Iranian island of Qeshm on Sunday, while the authorities have not yet issued an explanation regarding the nature of the explosions or their causes.
Local sources reported that the sound of the explosion was heard from the sea, according to the official Iranian news agency, IRNA, which indicated that there have been no reports of injuries or damage inside the island so far.
While local sources have not yet provided any additional details regarding the source or nature of the explosions.
Note that the sounds of explosions in Qeshm have been heard repeatedly in recent days, as explosions were heard in the vicinity of the island on more than one occasion, the most recent of which was Saturday, when Mehr Agency reported hearing the sounds of explosions from the direction of the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that no security incident had occurred inside the island.
This came hours after the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO) announced that a tanker had been hit by an unknown projectile while sailing in the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the engine room, with no injuries among crew members or environmental effects recorded so far.
This also coincides with the continuing tension between Iran and the United States, in light of the American naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports, as the Iranian army announced its intention to increase the range of its missiles, at a time when the American administration renewed its warnings and threats regarding the Iranian file.
While the Iranian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its readiness for dialogue through diplomatic tracks to reach a solution to end the conflict that erupted since last February, it stressed at the same time Tehran’s readiness to respond to any attack.
Iran has announced that it is studying American comments on its latest proposal known as the “Seven-Day Plan,” in the latest indication of the continuation of indirect contacts between Tehran and Washington, despite the remaining fundamental differences between the two parties.
