Iran is preparing for possible strikes by raising the readiness of vital facilities

Iran has raised the level of preparedness in dozens of vital entities and installations, in anticipation of the possibility of infrastructure being exposed to attacks, amid continuing tension and previous American threats to target facilities inside the country.

The head of the Iranian Civil Defense Organization, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, said that about 46 executive and operational bodies, which are supposed to have plans to respond in times of war, are now prepared to deal with wartime conditions.

He also explained that these parties are required to develop plans to respond during the war, repair damage and restore normal conditions, in addition to preserving their functions, continuing their activities, and securing the necessary supplies for operation. He added that each party must determine in advance how to deal with the damage that may be caused to its infrastructure as a result of any attack, and how to continue providing its services if its facilities are targeted.

In addition, Jalali pointed out that the infrastructure in question includes oil refineries, power plants, water treatment plants, ports, bridges, roads, airports, and airlines, which are essential facilities for the continuation of the state’s work and services in wartime conditions.

These measures came as the Iranian Civil Defense Organization continues to focus on increasing the resilience of vital installations and ensuring the continuity of services if they are exposed to attacks.

It also came after previous threats made by US President Donald Trump to target Iranian infrastructure. Last July, Trump threatened to target power plants and bridges if Tehran did not return to negotiations, and said that the United States was capable of striking Iranian power plants. His statements at the time came during an escalation between Washington and Tehran.

Then on July 22, Trump escalated his threats, saying that the United States would bomb and destroy a “bridge or power station” in Iran for every Iranian targeting of a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, explaining that this may include facilities near Tehran or within the capital itself.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials vowed, in return, to respond to any targeting of the country's infrastructure.
