- Lebanese artist Maya Diab appeared on the platform of Fashion Week in the Emirate of Dubai, UAE, wearing an Indian sari designed by Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani as part of a fashion show titled “Multiple Faces of Tarun Tahiliani’s World.” Tahiliani presented his presentation in celebration of the cultural ties that unite India with the Arab world, based on the fluidity of fabrics and the precision of craftsmanship in implementing the designs, while employing elements of traditional fashion within a contemporary vision of high fashion.
The Indian designer's official Instagram account indicated that Diab's participation came as part of a show that celebrates the many facets of femininity, in which heritage meets modernity, while craftsmanship transcends the boundaries of cultures. Lebanese fashion stylist Suleiman Al Dayaa based Diab’s look on the combination of Indian craftsmanship that distinguishes Tahiliani’s designs, and the special presence of the Lebanese artist, while ensuring that the details reflect her identity and style.
Al-Dayaa explained, in an interview with the Ofoq News website in Arabic, that the challenge was to highlight the beauty of the design without its details overshadowing Diab’s personality, noting that the final look requires attention to every element in it, whether in terms of the appearance of the design up close or along the display platform. The design came with a balance between the short, embroidered top, which defined the neck area, and the wide skirt, rich in delicate embroideries.
Champagne and silver tones helped highlight the details of the fabric and catch the light, while the transparent scarf extending to the floor added movement and flow to the look. Jewelry also formed an essential part of the "look", as the jeweled forehead adornment emerged, which surrounded the facial features, in addition to the striking necklace that blended in with the neckline.
Al-Dayaa pointed out that the density of details in the design required special care in choosing the jewelry and determining its placement and size, ensuring its integration with the fashion without obscuring its lines. As for hair and makeup, flowing blonde waves were chosen to add a touch of softness to the look, while maintaining its connection to Diab’s well-known identity.
The coordination was completed with eyeliner and soft lipstick. Al-Dayaa explained that his interest when coordinating Diab's looks is not limited to appearance, but also includes the way she moves and feels comfortable and confident while wearing the design, considering that the success of the look is achieved when the fashion and the woman who wears it remain present in the memory together.
