Abu Dhabi - Ofoq News - The Axios website, quoting an Israeli intelligence official, said that the Mossad and the Shin Bet are participating in the investigation into the Flydubai plane incident that was heading from Dubai to Israel, after the Omani co-pilot attacked the pilot of the plane, which led to its emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
According to the official, the investigation is focusing on the background and motives of the co-pilot, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that preliminary information indicates that the co-pilot had gone through what he described as “Islamic religious extremism” in recent months. He stressed that the investigation is still ongoing to determine whether he acted alone or whether there was another party behind the incident.
The Israeli official added that among the questions being investigated is how an Omani citizen was allowed to work as part of the crew of a flight heading to Israel, in light of security arrangements related to the operation of flights between the Emirates and Israel. Israeli reports stated that the operational agreement with Flydubai includes restrictions on the nationalities of aircraft crew members.
Israeli reports stated that the investigation includes Israeli security and intelligence agencies, in addition to investigations conducted by the Saudi and Emirati authorities, with the aim of determining the circumstances of the incident and the motive behind the attack.
Regarding the possibility of a connection to Iran, Netanyahu said that it was too early to decide this, noting that Israel may be able in the coming days to find out whether there is any relationship between the co-pilot and Iran. So far, there is no published evidence proving the involvement of Iran or any other party in the incident.
