Ramallah - Ofoq News - The "New Path" party announced its rejection of the decision to postpone the Palestinian legislative elections from November 28, 2026 to September 11, 2027, calling on President Mahmoud Abbas to hold an urgent meeting with representatives of registered lists to listen to their positions and discuss reconsidering the decision.
The party said, in a statement issued today, Saturday, that setting a new date does not dispel concerns about the reasons for postponement, nor does it provide guarantees that prevent another postponement. He considered that the decision represents a disappointment to millions of Palestinians, especially young people who have been waiting for the opportunity to participate in choosing their representatives.
The statement saw that the efforts of a limited number of leaders, supported by the positions of some factions, led by the Popular Front, contributed to the push for postponement, holding the parties supporting it politically responsible for disrupting the elections on the date specified by the presidential decree.
The party refused to consider the consensus between a limited number of factions as a comprehensive national consensus, pointing out the presence of registered lists and other parties that insist on holding the elections on time. He said that the lists that completed the registration requirements and collected the signatures of citizens deserve to have their point of view heard.
The statement added that the lack of preparedness of any faction should not lead to obstructing the people’s right to vote, considering that the decision to grant or withhold confidence is up to the voters, and a political meeting cannot replace the ballot box.
The party called for the national dialogue to include the new forces, registered lists, youth and women, stressing the continuation of its movements by peaceful, political and legal means to demand holding elections and renewing legitimacy.
The statement was issued by “New Path” and was signed by the party’s head and the head of the electoral list, Samer Al-Singlawi.
